Weekend February 10, 2018
Last Friday Annette Goodson Senior Manager at ATKG invited ten of our student to join ten from A & M International (Laredo) for an office visit.
First we toured their rather unique building, as CPA firms go. How many CPA firms have bicycles hanging on the wall, used for a short trek in a nearby par? How many have a mural of a scuba diver visiting under water with a sea turtle?
Then various individuals at different levels gave a great presentation on preparing for a job interview. They took it from resume preparation to interview prep to the interview itself.
Finally we broke into small groups of four or five and spent time with new members of the firm who described their experience.
Annette Goodson led off with a welcome to all.
Here are the bikes see I was not kidding
We were impressed that individuals from all levels of the firm were present.
Below one of the principals addressed us.
ATKG is not your typical accounting firm either in decor, valuing their people or the business model. ATKG acts as an advisor to family owned private businesses. The do not prepare retail tax returns. The do not do audits, only reviews and compilations.
The Principal indicated that business had grown 15% a year for the last five years. In addition they still have their very first client but dealing with a different generation of the family. And amazingly they do no advertising or marketing. All new business is word of mouth.
Sage a TAMUSA student has an internship at ATKG this semester. Each employee has a white board outside their office, note the welcome to Sage.
