The President's Picnic is a bit of a misnomer. It is actually more of a fair featuring both on campus and off campus organizations with a couple of slices of pizza thrown in for good measure. While sitting with good friend Jim Hackard, I met Madison Mauze, Senior VP for business Development for Ranger Health On Call.

I am reaching ACCT 3301, managerial accounting for non accounting majors this semesters. One of my goals is to pepper the class with out of the box thinking, new approaches to business models. Ranger Health qualifies.
As the card says, House Calls are Back. Well read their own words.

No doubt the idea is to partner with employer plans as well as make this available to individuals. The estimated individual house call is estimated at $95. That is about double a co pay for our University plan but if one had no plan, one could perhaps buy some real insurance. The Ranger house call would suffice for run of the mill problems.A catastrophic incident plan, allowing for unexpected expensive operations would be true insurance, which in fact is the idea of insurance.
Insurance of any kind was never supposed to pay for every 'repair' neither car nor home insurance works that way. And health insurance should be the same, the consumer needs to have some skin in the game. Ranger is San Antonio based, we will follow up in a few months and see how they are doing.
