All universities have access to the same textbooks, and now with the internet lots of intellectual property. So what is the difference in schools, well as the saying goes, who you know. The Ivy League Schools have an elite franchise to sell. A case in point is the Skull and Bones group at Yale.
Admission to the Ivy League schools is the chance at the ultimate brass ring, look at the list. Here in Texas a John Conally moved from student body president at UT Austin to Governor, no accident. You will find the top law firms, banks, cpa firms, engineering firms in Texas peopled by UT and College Station grads. And guess what, they tend to hire, yes, UT and College Station grads. This is changing in the other cities, here in San Antonio, Texas State and UTSA grads have moved into top positions whereas UT and CS grads dominate in Houston. In the western part of the state Texas Tech grads have larger presence, in Dallas, look to SMU. As Bruce observed, branding is important.
