Another theme of this blog is the importance of Design. We suggested that Design be incorporated into an MBA program at two different schools. It would not be necessary to hire specific teachers for this idea, just start emphasizing what good design can mean in terms of bringing product to the market, see our post on high and low end marketing today.
Here is exactly what we mean, the police car re designed. Police cars are modified plain jane passenger cars. This Atlanta company has re thought what a police car should look like, and lots of depts are showing an interest. Read about it in this Wired article.
There have long been companies that built fire engines, this is the first I know of to focus on police cars.
Over 300 agencies expressing interest is still a long way from the agencies actually buying the new high-tech police cruisers. With the economic downturn still spinning, most agencies are not going to have the budget in the foreseeable future to afford the "luxury" of a customized police car. It is refreshing to see the police force have their turn at the wheel of vehicles specially made with the specific needs of law enforcement. The requirements of policing communities is finally brought to the drawing table of auto designers, let see how far they can "afford" to take it.

Dawn
Good point I will have to do a bit of research but remember the drug war allows money for swat teams, urban assault vehicles, and all sorts of Toys R Us for Law Enforcement, this one actually looks practical, not a toy

I will defiantly forward this to my brother-in-law and cousin which are currently SA police officers. Very sleek and top of the line.
I recently recieved 2 traffic violations in the month of march alone! One on the south side of town which was a hand-written violation. The other on the north side, which was a new computerized violation in printed form. Shows who gets the new technology or modern devices first..

I believe that new designs are great all the time. It's like everything else but can we really afford it. I see more important things like designing new instruments to protection the officers than just looking good in a car. This is my opinion but theres more to just looking good and trying to keep up with the jones.

There is no money in anybody current budget, the more money they send in these designer cars less officers on the street. It’s getting harder now to recognizing a real cop these days since they moved to different styles of cars. And so many people are getting ripped off and those that are real are getting more tickets for failure to stop because the driver don’t recognized it’s a read cop.
